GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to provide internships to students from Jammu and Kashmir. Through this collaboration, IIT-G will implement the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir students which aims to provide better exposure to students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in higher learning institutes.

CHENNAI: AICTE chairman Anil D Sahasrabudhe played down the controversy surrounding introduction of Sanskrit in technical institutions. A controversy erupted after a department from Anna University made Philosophy compulsory, which included chapters from Bhagvad Gita and Upanishad, for BTech students. Political parties cried foul saying it amounts to imposing Sanskrit language. The University clarified that it would bring amendment to make it a choice for students.

This year, of 1,67,652 engineering seats available in Tamil Nadu, only 83,396 (49.74 % ) were filled. In Maharashtra, 50% engineering seats have been reported to be vacant in this academic year (2019-20). Several other states including Gujarat, Telangana, Chattisgarh and Odisha have similar stories to tell.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has directed all affiliating universities in the country to ensure that engineering colleges affiliated under them start offering multi-disciplinary courses with special focus on emerging technologies.
